Terms of Use

These conditions govern every visit, search, and use of content on Nelson County Criminal History. Using the website indicates agreement with all terms below. Anyone who does not agree should stop using it.

NO FCRA USE. This privately operated website is not affiliated with a local, state, or federal agency. Neither it nor its advertising partners offers a service intended for credit, employment, insurance, tenant, or other Fair Credit Reporting Act use. Its purpose is to identify criminal-record resources for Nelson County, Virginia. It is not a private investigator or consumer reporting agency.

1. What This Website Is

This is a private reference site with no government connection. It neither stores official criminal records nor retrieves records, performs official checks, or files papers for a visitor.

Reference material routes readers to Nelson County Sheriff's Office, local criminal court clerks, Virginia State Police, and the Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry. Some pages also connect to partner-operated research tools.

2. Rules for Using This Site

Use of the site is conditioned on these restrictions:

  • Do not violate federal, Virginia, or local law
  • Do not stalk, threaten, or harass a person with information found here
  • Do not use site content for hiring, housing, lending, or insurance decisions
  • Do not seek unauthorized access to systems or data
  • Do not deploy bots, scrapers, or automated collection tools
  • Do not impair performance or interfere with another visitor's access

3. No Harassment, Stalking, or Discrimination

Information from the site or a linked tool may not be used to stalk, intimidate, threaten, harass, or unlawfully discriminate. Under Va. Code § 9.1-918, unauthorized registry use and intimidation or harassment can be a Class 1 misdemeanor. Registry data supports public awareness, not vigilante acts or prohibited decisions.

4. We Are Not a Consumer Reporting Agency

We are not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA and do not create consumer, credit, or background reports. Our partners' tools are not offered for reviewing applicants, rental applications, insurance eligibility, or creditworthiness. Data from the site or a linked tool must not be used to:

  • Decide whether to hire or fire someone
  • Screen potential renters or housing applicants
  • Judge creditworthiness or set insurance premiums
  • Determine who qualifies for licenses, permits, or government programs
  • Do anything else that falls under FCRA rules

A regulated purpose requires an authorized official process or a screening provider that complies with the FCRA. Site content is not a substitute.

5. No Legal Advice

Site content is general information, not legal advice. Only a licensed Virginia attorney can assess how a charge, conviction, warrant, sealing rule, or expungement law applies to a specific matter.

6. No Warranties

All content and functions are provided "as is." No warranty is made that:

  • The information here is accurate, complete, or current at any given time
  • The site will stay up and running without interruptions
  • Our pages are free of errors, bugs, or security holes
  • Results from our partner search tools will be thorough or accurate

Charges, dispositions, custody entries, sealed cases, and expunged records can change after publication. Gaps may occur, and no page is an official statement from a court, sheriff, or state office.

7. Third-Party Services and Links

Links may lead to government offices, court portals, legal resources, and outside search services. We do not control those destinations or accept responsibility for their content, privacy practices, prices, or availability. Their terms apply after a visitor leaves this site.

8. Intellectual Property

Text, graphics, logos, and code belong to Nelson County Criminal History or its content partners. Written permission is required before copying, distributing, modifying, or creating derivative material.

9. Limits on Our Liability

To the fullest lawful extent, we are not liable for damages arising from site use, including reliance on information found here or through a linked service.

10. Indemnification

A user agrees to hold us harmless from claims or demands arising from that user's conduct or breach of these terms, including related legal fees and costs.

11. Governing Law

Virginia law governs these terms. Any dispute tied to site use must be brought in a court located in Virginia. Virginia's Freedom of Information Act, Va. Code § 2.2-3700 et seq., governs public bodies, while Va. Code § 19.2-389 controls dissemination of CCRE history. Neither makes this private site a government custodian.

12. Changes to These Terms

These terms may be revised. A posted revision takes effect when it appears on this page.

13. Cutting Off Access

Access may be restricted or ended at any time, for any reason, without advance notice.

14. Severability

If one provision is held invalid or unenforceable, all remaining provisions continue. The affected language is adjusted only to the extent needed for enforcement.
