Criminal Cases in the Nelson County Courts
Nelson County has no municipal court layer because it has no incorporated city or town. Local criminal cases instead divide among three Virginia courts at Courthouse Square in Lovingston. Read Nelson County Criminal Dispositions
The original charge does not tell the whole Nelson County case story. Read it with the amended charge, plea, disposition, disposition date, and court level. “Guilty” is a conviction. “Dismissed” means the charge ended without conviction. “Nolle prosequi” means the Commonwealth chose not to prosecute that charge at that time. A request for the final order or certified disposition is clearer than a broad request for “everything.” The Circuit clerk has a local practice of placing certified orders in courthouse mailboxes for local attorneys and the probation officer, while mailing them to outside attorneys and agencies. That detail does not replace the need to confirm copy methods and payment before a public request.
